The match will be contested in 10, two-minute rounds. The first two matches were action-packed wars, which were highly contested, many believe either match could have been awarded to Amanda Serrano. The first match at Madison Square Garden in New York City saw them throw nearly 1,000 punches between the two with Taylor edging out the victory via a split decision.
Serrano controlled much of the action in the second meeting, outlanding and outboxing Taylor throughout the fight. Still, Taylor inflicted visible damage on Serrano via a series of headbutts, which left Serrano bloodied despite her cleaner performance.
Taylor vs Serrano 3 is due to take place on Friday, July 11 – at least in the US. It will be broadcast in the early hours of Saturday, July 12 with coverage starting at 1am GMT.
Veteran commentator Sean Grande will call the blow-by-blow ringside, joined by former undisputed world champion Seniesa Estrada and Ali for in-fight analysis. Ariel Helwani and Sibley Scoles will provide ringside interviews and reporting.
The historic event will be the first-ever all-women’s boxing card at Madison Square Garden, featuring 21 world title belts contested across five fights, including three undisputed championship bouts and two unified championship bouts.
The third match-up between the titans of women’s boxing is set to take place at Madison Square Garden this month. It has been billed as a “mega-event” by Netflix.
That view is at odds with Netflix commentary team of Mauro Ranallo, ring legend Roy Jones Jr and actress Rosie Perez. Ranallo and Perez claimed the judges had got it wrong. Jones Jr sided with the winner.
Taylor, who featured close to -150 odds just a few months ago, is catching a 44.44% chance to sweep Serrano in the first trilogy fight in the history of women’s boxing – which also headlines the first-ever all-female fight card at Madison Square Garden.
The 38-year-old replied: “I just want to be involved in the biggest fight possible. After the last fight, I knew this was still the biggest fight that people were talking about.
The length of this fight has already been a point of contention between Taylor and Serrano, with the latter suggesting that they had agreed on 12 rounds of three minutes each – the same for the men’s championship. Taylor says she didn’t agree to anything other than 10 rounds of two minutes, which is the standard for women’s boxing.
